ThreadCraft Club

New to the ThreadHeads line up this year: an all ages exploration of the fibre arts. Even the youngest hands will be able to weave, knit, sew and create a variety of beautiful crafts. The focus of this club is on creativity, life skills and independence. As well, children will be introduced to a variety of knot-tying skills throughout the course. Motivating mediums, methods and engaging projects encourage even the youngest of participants to have FUN and make things they can be proud of.

Friendship Bracelet Club

New to the ThreadHeads line up this year: Friendship Bracelet Club! Fun to make, lovely to gift and a delight to wear, friendship bracelets are a firm favourite of kids everywhere. In this club kids will learn the skills needed to tie a variety of useful knots and make some seriously cool arm candy. Materials and methods will encompass: traditional embroidery floss friendship bracelets; paracord, hemp and boondoggle bracelets; weaving, kumihimo and more! Starting and finishing techniques will be taught to help keep these bracelets around for a long time to come!

Knitting Club

In this program children are taught the fundamentals of how to knit, cast on, bind off and purl. All materials are provided in a hand sewn bag for the children to keep. Each week we make progress at our own pace toward making a variety of different projects: wallets, eyeglass cases, stuffies, accessories for stuffies, scarves, hats and more have been made in ThreadHeads knitting clubs. We also explore other yarn crafts like loom knitting and pompom making (a firm favourite with the kids). By the end of term beginners will be knitting confidently; more experienced knitters will be completing projects and more complicated stitch patterns.

Sewing Club

In this program kids are given the opportunity to hand sew a variety of useful projects while developing real life skills.  All materials are provided along with a sewing kit and handmade bag for the children to keep their supplies in. Each week we work through a variety of projects from pin cushions and needle books to button trees, drawstring bags, zipper pouches and hats.  We also experiment with embroidery and patchwork.  More advanced classes will focus on techniques like visible mending, sashiko stitching,  applique and quilting.

Woven Arts

New this year we explore the woven arts.  Looms of all kinds, friendship bracelets, macrame and weaving will be explored.  Kids will acquire the skills to create their own tapestries, bracelets, baskets, art and more.  Specific clubs for friendship bracelets or loom weaving can be provided depending on age range and interest.
